Strength in Stories: Tera Serianne
Welcome to Strength In Stories — our tribute to nurses for National Nurses Week 2024. Beyond their work uniforms, nurses are real people with unique stories to share. This campaign celebrates their incredible resilience, compassion, and inner strength. Join us as we honor nurses not just for their work in healthcare, but for the passions and triumphs that make them who they are. Let's shine a light on the humanity and personalities of nurses, thanking them for their dedication both inside and outside the hospital.
Meet Tera Serianne, a new grad nurse!
What aspect of nursing do you find most fulfilling?
Tera: Helping people is at the core of nursing, and it's the most fulfilling aspect of the profession. Being there for someone during their most vulnerable moments, providing comfort, care, and support, is incredibly rewarding. Whether it's holding a patient's hand, listening to their concerns, or advocating for their needs, the impact nurses have on people's lives is profound.
How do you recharge and take care of yourself outside of work? What activities or hobbies do you enjoy the most?
Tera: When it's time to recharge, I turn to a few things that bring me joy and relaxation. Running to Taylor Swift's music is my go-to; there's something about her tunes that just energize me. I also love treating myself to facials—it's like a mini spa day at home. Baking is a passion of mine; I've got a major sweet tooth, so whipping up treats is both fun and satisfying. And nothing beats happy hour with my fiancé—we catch up, unwind, and munch on appetizers while sharing stories from the week. These activities keep me balanced and ready to tackle whatever comes my way.
What role do your family and friends play in your life, and how do they support you?
Tera: My family and friends mean everything to me; they're my support system through thick and thin. Whenever I need advice, a listening ear, or just a good laugh, they're there. They offer unwavering support, cheering me on in my endeavors and comforting me in tough times. Whether it's celebrating achievements or providing a shoulder to lean on, their presence makes all the difference. They understand me like no one else does, lifting me up when I'm down and encouraging me to be the best version of myself. Their love and encouragement give me the strength to face life's challenges head-on, knowing that no matter what happens, I have a solid foundation of love and support to rely on.
Can you share a memorable experience or accomplishment from your personal life that you’re proud of?
Tera: One of my proudest moments stems from creating a foundation that brings joy to children in hospitals during the holidays. It started as a small idea, but it's grown exponentially over the years. Seeing those kids smile when they receive toys, knowing it might brighten their day, fills me with immense pride and fulfillment. Every year, as the foundation expands and reaches more children, I'm reminded of the impact even small acts of kindness can have. It's not just about the toys; it's about spreading hope and happiness during what can be a difficult time for many families. Knowing that I've played a part in making those moments a little brighter for those kids is a feeling like no other, and it's something I'll always treasure.
What aspirations or goals do you have for your future, both personally and professionally?
Tera: Professionally, my goal is to further my education and become a pediatric nurse practitioner. I'm passionate about working with children and their families, and I believe this role will allow me to make an even greater impact on their lives. Personally, I aspire to start a family within the next couple of years and put down roots in a community where we can thrive together. Building a loving home and raising children is something I've always looked forward to, and I can't wait to embark on that journey. Balancing my professional aspirations with my personal goals is important to me, and I'm excited to see where the future takes me in both aspects of my life.
