Strength in Stories: Colleen Kim
Welcome to Strength In Stories — our tribute to nurses for National Nurses Week 2024. Beyond their work uniforms, nurses are real people with unique stories to share. This campaign celebrates their incredible resilience, compassion, and inner strength. Join us as we honor nurses not just for their work in healthcare, but for the passions and triumphs that make them who they are. Let's shine a light on the humanity and personalities of nurses, thanking them for their dedication both inside and outside the hospital
Meet Colleen Kim, a registered nurse!
What aspect of nursing do you find most fulfilling?
Colleen: It is such an immense honor to be a nurse for patients and their families who are possibly going through their most vulnerable and painful season of their lives. Being able to serve, to care for, to listen and advocate for these patients and families are what is most fulfilling for me.
How do you recharge and take care of yourself outside of work? What activities or hobbies do you enjoy the most?
Colleen: I try to prioritize self care as much as I can on my days off. Aside from resting (taking naps, reading, watching movies, etc), I personally feel most recharged when I am staying creative. So I love to intentionally spend time in photography, styling, and journaling.
What role do your family and friends play in your life, and how do they support you?
Colleen: As a nurse, I found that having an intimate support system is vital for my mental health. My family and friends support me best by providing a listening ear to my hard days.
Can you share a memorable experience or accomplishment from your personal life that you’re proud of?
Colleen: I’m proud of becoming a mom. I’m just so thankful to be given this gift of motherhood. Giving birth and raising my daughter is my most memorable experience and my biggest accomplishment.
What aspirations or goals do you have for your future, both personally and professionally?
Colleen: Professionally, I want to earn my certification in pediatric hematology and oncology. My personal goals are pretty simple: to love and support my family, friends, and community in the best way I can.
